Bye bye dear first and worldwide beloved blog
It was a real shock on this historic 21st of november 2024. I did get no warning, tumblr just deleted my blog, after 10 years, 17,000 posts and 180,000 followers, such a big archive, all so well tagged, all lost.
Also the 12 private blogs are gone I once created together with my students, a documentation of my profession and sweet memories. Sigh.
It is particularly bad as my blog is a fair use project, non-profit and educational, and therefore it could have been saved. I‘ve read that tumblr was sold to WordPress in 2019 for 3 Millions, I should have asked my bank and bought it myself, haha. Writing to the support was like constantly talking to AI, got all kind of mail templates, no real human response.
Thank goodness the URL was mine. Also I did own a WordPress Blog, started in 2013 which was still online (with already 2000 posts), a base for the restart. And I had the passwort available after 11 years! So I can revive the old blog, it is a good base for future activities, I was into italian design then. tumblr is part of WordPress, funny thing.
By the way I am happy that the Internet Archive and the Wayback Machine exists, there are around 450 snapshots of the old website so I can indulge in the good old times.
At least this situation will keep me busy and at least I am now the proud owner of “design is fine“. As WordPress is a CMS system and no filesharing, any copyright problem will not be handled so brutaly … I hope so! There is no reblog, but more freedom.
Last but not least, it feels so good to get feed-back from the fans of design-is-fine, from all around the world, and feel the positive support, quite a motivation!
Design-is-fine is alive and kicking.
