Otl Aicher, design concept for the Munich 1972 Olympics
Aicher designed the uniforms with a colour-coding system to organise the large number of employees and volunteers required for such a large-scale event. Teams of workers could be quickly and easily identified by their colours, which reflected Aicher’s larger colour system for the Games. While he could not realise every specific project involved with the Olympics, he created the individual design elements and was the overseer of each poster and publication.
