The publication of the HfG magazine ‘ulm’ began in 1958. Designed as a school prospectus, ‘ulm 1’ contains information on teaching content, lecturers and the organisation of the university. The reprint of Tomás Maldonado’s speech ‘’New Developments in Industry and the Training of Product Designers’ in “ulm 2” marks the beginning of a series of critical contributions on central issues of the international design discourse. Issues 1 to 5 were published in square format, in German, English and French.
After an interruption of more than three years, ‘ulm 6’ was published in October 1962 in the new A-4 format, bilingual in German and English only. The last issue, ‘ulm 21’, appeared in April 1968. The magazine has a total of 14 issues, some of which are multiple issues. The ulm issues document the results of teaching, development and research. At the same time, they provide an insight into the theoretical foundations on which the design work was based. More here
