George Nelson & Associates ‘Lantern’ lights
George Nelson is well known for his Plastic Bubble lamps but his office produced a whole host of other lighting fixtures. Designed in 1960, the ‘Lantern’ lights were pieces of cut vinyl, moulded and clipped around a cylindrical styrene diffuser. Using differing tensions and outer hoop sizes, various shapes could be formed using the same basic components. The depth created by the play of light and shadow is beautiful, and all from a simple piece of plastic! www.theimportanceofbeingmodernist.com
