Lou Scheper-Berkenkamp, 1922

After joining Bauhaus Weimar Lou Berkenkamp studied under Johannes Itten, Paul Klee and Lyonel Feininger and worked in the mural workshop – where she, presumably, met the painter Hinnerk Scheper whom she married in 1922.

Following Bauhaus’ move to Dessau Hinnerk Scheper was promoted to Jungmeister and head of the mural workshop and Lou Scheper-Berkenkamp undertook numerous artistic projects producing a canon of work the includes paintings, sketches, illustrations for childrens books and stage design/interior design projects, including the colour design of Hans Scharoun’s Berliner Philharmonie.
