Design is fine. History is mine.

Imagine a time with no computer

The Bauhaus curriculum, 1922. Teaching starts in the first year with a preliminary basic course, named “Vorlehre”, studies of form and matter, preliminary workshops, called “Vorwerkstatt”. Lots of experimenting. In the next two years it is all about colours, composition, space, shape, construction, materials & tools, about fabrics, substances and last not least … nature. Then you choose which material way is the best for your skills: Working with glass, color, textile fabrics, metal, wood or stone. Final target is the construction site “Bauplatz”, focused on design and engineering.

The basic Bauhaus educational principles were

  • Study, not Art
  • Practice before Theory
  • Learning by Doing
