Design is fine. History is mine.

… The last project of Eero Saarinen with Florence Knoll, and probably the most famous one, are their line of Tulip chairs in 1957 where they continue the use of the base “pedestal” as in their previous tables. The name stems from the thin form of the base in the shape of the stem of a flower. Although Saarinen fought for creating a chair of a single material, the base had to be of aluminum since the fiberglass failed to endure so much weight. Even so, the design had a finished look like a single piece, just as the designer envisioned.
