Shaker Design. Seed Boxes, 1850 – 1880.
Shakers were among the first to package garden seeds in “papers” for the kitchen gardener. Packages were displayed in boxes such as these in general stores throughout New England, New York, Ohio, and Kentucky. The Shaker seed industry thrived for nearly a century.
