“Wherever possible, we will endeavour to decorate without constraint and not at any price. We use many semi-precious stones, especially in our jewellery; they replace the value of diamonds for us with their beauty of colour and infinite, almost unrepeatable variety. We love silver for its silver lustre and gold for its gold lustre; copper is just as valuable to us in artistic terms as the precious metals. We must admit that jewellery made of silver can be just as valuable in itself as jewellery made of gold and precious stones. The value of the artistic work and the idea should neither be recognised nor appreciated.” Josef Hoffmann
